Clip

This is a link to the clip of my first interview with Fransisco, a poverty-stricken man from Milwaukee. I want my film to be about the homeless and the poor as people themselves, not just overlooked objects on the street. My goal is to create an awareness surrounding the homeless and poor, and also get to know some of them. There are intelligent people out there who just need a boost. Francisco, for example, is a Doctor of Law. I want to show that the homeless and the poor have more in common with me as I would like to think.

I like the clip and I hope you have more where this came from. You state in your summary that you are looking to compare your subjects with yourself. Could you elaborate on that a little more? Will you be an active subject in the piece?

The shooting style of this clip is unusual, in a good way. It breaks with the typical interview format (talking head on the left or the right of the screen). Also it gives the subject a richness--the texture of his skin and his beard have a physical presence. We can feel his age and wisdom. I am also still confused how this is all going together (is it about poverty or homelessness, or is it just about people who are overlooked in society?), and whether or not you will play a role, but I'm interested to see more.

Very nice clip. I like the style, it forces us to look at the features that charactarize him as homeless. An Uncemptness that society frowns upon. I would like to know more about him. Did he choose to be homeless or was it forced on him? How did he come from having a Doctorite in Law to living on the streets? Really get into the personal lives of the individual so we can begin to conect with him. Your style of filming points in that direction but the content of the Interview doesn't as much. I think it is very nice and interesting, and am looking forward to seeing more!!

I love your framing of this shot, where at first we just see his hair and forehead and then you gradually reveal his whole face. It's very intimate and unusual. I feel like I know him, or I want to anyway. I too am wondering what the whole structure of your film is going to be since this is all I've seen, but this one shot is great.

Andy, very great clip. I'm intrigued to learn more about him. I will have to echo the other about the framing is great. One thing I about is how people can get skittish about homeless people and avoid them at all cost - your framing brings people closer to him. Which at first is unusual, but you quickly get over it and his story takes control. I liked it alot. Did you use a wireless mic, I hear alot of noise - could be my MacBook?

I'm sold that the majority of homeless people will talk, and will talk looooong. Keep the camera recording all the time, forget the burning pain in your arms, and keep holding your breath until you turn blue to steady the shot! I like what I'm seeing, and it's good to see you taking your 'research' beyond the dependency of others.

Wow, this guy is fantastic! You could do a project on just him and it would be captivating and interesting. Do you have footage of him talking about being a Doctor of Law, and what that means to him now, and why he chose the life he did? I'm really interested in his story.
